Eye Strain?

I’ve always loved the look of my black website but never without the nagging feeling it might not be the optimum solution in terms of reading large chunks of text, ie. blog posts.

Some recent feedback has confirmed this to be the case and I’m planning to make some changes. I need to remove as many barriers to people’s reading pleasure, whilst keeping the design consistent and ‘on-brand’. If you’ve ever read a post on my blog (or even if you haven’t) I’d really appreciate your feedback on which way to take it. My two preferred options are to add a lightened panel and making the text black on top of it (option a, below) or just reduce the glare of the high contrast by giving some texture and lightening the background slightly on the blog posts, keeping the text white (option b, below).
